Penelope's Web: enhancing contemporary opera’s representation of ancient myth
'Penelope's Web' is a project that explores the power of ancient Greek myth through modern music composition and education, using an innovative programme of collaborative workshops. It establishes a new international network of scholars and institutions working on interdisciplinary, practice-based approaches to understanding the influence of ancient Greek and Roman culture on music. Through the workshops scholars will develop fresh insights into ancient and modern music performance, with the help of musicians and young audiences. The project also has multiple impact beneficiaries. It will enhance musicians' understanding of the questions posed by Greek myth, and enrich school students' appreciation of classical literature and music by empowering them to help tell an ancient story through music.
