Hub for Applied Bioinformatics (HAB)

The Hub for Applied Bioinformatics transforms big data into valuable knowledge, fostering scientific breakthroughs in different research fields. It promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, productivity, and innovation in bioinformatics. At HAB we offer research-oriented bioinformatics support, training, seminars and data clubs, networking opportunities and a shared space to tackle bioinformatics challenges together.

Access: To access bioinformatics support, researchers need to complete a form that captures details about their project, experimental design, and data analysis requirements. Researchers have two options for availing the support:

1) Grant-based support: Researchers can choose to include the cost of bioinformatician's time as part of their grant application.

2) Fee-based support: Alternatively, researchers have the option to directly pay a fee for accessing specific analysis packages or services.
Training:
We offer a wide range of workshops, covering different aspects of bioinformatics: Basic skills and programming, cloud computing and pipeline building, analysis of different types of data, AI and machine learning.
Location: 5th floor Hodgkin Building, Newcomen Street, London SE1 1UL | Guy’s Campus

 e-Research

e-Research enables and facilitates computational- and data-intensive research across disciplines within King’s. They provide the infrastructure and platforms required by a wide range of research areas. Furthermore, they provide the specialist support to PhD and post-docs to develop their skills to use these systems effectively in their research projects each step of the way.

This bridge between the researchers and their technological need is separated into different aspects of this service. The e-Research space is always changing to meet the need of researchers. So far, the resources that can be used are:

  • CREATE- Computational Research, Engineering And Technology Environment
  • Research Data Storage
  • Research Software Engineering

An additional project that is in its pilot is the TRE (Trusted Research Environment) and is on track to becoming available at the end of the year.

Contact: If you have an enquiry into whether e-Research can help with your project, please email e-research@kcl.ac.uk

King's Digital Lab

The King’s Digital Lab (KDL) is a Research Software Engineering (RSE) team hosted by the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at King’s College London. We work in collaboration with our partners to develop innovative digital approaches to explore research questions, supporting researchers inside and outside King’s. Our work is primarily in arts and humanities research as well as cultural heritage, with some projects related to social sciences. We design and implement systems, infrastructure, tools, and processes needed to produce a heterogeneous range of high quality digital scholarly outputs (from historical databases and digital editions to data visualisations and infographics, from georeferenced maps to natural language processing workflows and immersive experiences). We are open to new partners and multidisciplinary approaches.

Access: We strongly recommend researchers contact us as early as possible and at least 3 months before application deadlines. Complete an online webform, or email the facility to get in touch.
Training: Workshops and seminars on topics such as digital methods and approaches are held throughout the year, based on requests received and project needs. We also have a toolkit available for setting up and documenting our software development lifecycle in a research setting.
Location: Room 2.50, 22 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6LE
