The Research Strategy & Performance Department aims to enhance our research and impact through a wide variety of activities and initiatives. Led by Dr Tom Foulkes, and reporting to the Vice President (Research & Innovation) Professor Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi, the team’s activities include:

  • Development and delivery of university-wide strategic initiatives designed to enhance our research capabilities, supported by research performance analysis.
  • Creation and management of a variety of 'pump-priming' internal funding programmes.
  • Research development: supporting and coordinating research funding applications, with a particular focus on large/strategic applications and fellowships, and including content creation, internal review, mock interviews and much more.
  • Research-focused training programmes including the successful Leading Researchers and Emerging Research Leaders

The REF/KEF/Impact section of the team partners with Dean of Research Excellence Frameworks Professor Maddy Parsons to coordinate our REF and KEF submissions, and to support the development of an 'impact culture' across the university.
