The Translational Oncology and Urology Research (TOUR) Team at King’s College London is committed to Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) at all stages of research involving cancer populations. The Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities are disproportionately under-represented in research. For this reason, we established the PPI Cancer Research Group for Diverse Backgrounds to:

• create a research forum which represents the voices of people from diverse communities directly affected by research projects and healthcare services
• provide a platform for researchers to access this under-represented population of patients and members of the public who wish to be involved with clinical research
• provide a greater range of perspectives from the Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities.

The group is made up of members from the public as well as those who have been affected by cancer both directly and indirectly from the Black Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.

The group and its representatives support and continue to support a number of studies both locally and internationally, through providing input on research projects at varying stages of the research cycle, for example, reviewing patient facing literature (Patient Information Sheets (PIS), websites etc.), attending information sessions and focus groups etc.

The group meets every two months (with a break over the summer months). As the group is not formally funded, we would appreciate remuneration for time and input given where possible. In any case, we would be grateful to be advised on the success or not of any proposal and/or study findings/results.
