King’s is committed to disability equality and inclusion so that all disabled people and those with long term conditions are included and feel valued, and that barriers are understood and overcome.
For King's to be the university of choice, we are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and quality service that ensures a fulfilling experience for all of our staff, students, alumni and visitors. King’s is committed to complying with the disability provisions of the Equality Act (2010), subsequent public sector Equality Duty, as well as preceding legislation such as the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (2001).
King's joined the Business Disability Forum (BDF) in 2017 to demonstrate it's commitment to ensuring disability inclusion is a key strategic priority.
King's is also committed to fulfilling its requirements under the Accessibility Regulations 2018. Accessibility Statements for King's digital platforms can be found on the Accessibility for King's web applications webpage.
King's Disability Policy applies to current and prospective staff, students, alumni and visitors. It sets out King's commitment to enable the full participation of disabled people and to tackle structural, cultural, organisational and behavioural barriers that adversely impact disabled people.
The senior sponsor for disability inclusion across King's is Professor Richard Trembath (Senior Vice President Health & Life Sciences and Executive Director of King's Health Partners).
Professor Trembath chairs our Disability Inclusion Steering Group (DISG), which works to ensure initiatives and projects are strategic, sustainable and accountable.
King's Disability Inclusion Action Plan and Maturity Model were developed in 2018/19 in consultation with the King's Community and based on the Business Disability Forum self-assessment process.
