Biography
I am an engineer turned historian interested in urban and environmental history of modern South Asia. I also have general expertise in history of science, technology and medicine. I completed by undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering in India and worked in the Indian electricity sector for a few years before switching to academic research. I completed my MA in History of Science, Technology and Medicine at KCL, and stayed on to complete my PhD in History there in January 2024. I also hold a post-graduate degree in Science Policy Studies from the Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. While a PhD student at King's, I helped the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine in co-ordinating its seminars and events, and also worked as a teaching assistant at King's for various undergraduate modules in history, international relations, and digital humanities.
Research interests and PhD supervision
My research centres on histories of technology and environment, as well as urban history in modern South Asia. My PhD research examined the history of sanitary modernisation in colonial South Asian cities as a window to understand the nature and consequences of capitalist urban development in colonial contexts.
Expertise and public engagement
I have a good track record of public engagement with my research. I have contributed to Indian newspapers such as The Hindu, The Daily Pioneer providing historical perspectives on contemporary urban environmental challenges such as urban flooding, through columns and interviews.
