Biography
Sylvie is a multi-award-winning radio/podcast producer and consultant who has unapologetically focused on amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities, with a particular interest in Black-British stories.
Her most recent work includes producing 1Xtra Talks, a BBC Radio 1Xtra programme that deep dived into the social and topical issues relevant to Black communities across the UK. And co-producing the independent award-winning docu-podcast series Coiled. In 2022 she was recognised as “one to watch” by the Radio Academy, joining the 30 under 30 class.
Her research project is a natural transition from her industry contributions, where she is now exploring how podcasts and radio are currently used to produce and share material for Black British audiences. She aims of enriching the understanding of how speech-focused audio content can establish, disrupt and radically transform narratives around race and racism about Black lives and their experiences, as well as revealing what change is needed in the British audio industry to achieve this.
Sylvie is also passionate about decolonisation, working as a researcher on a British Academy-funded project. The project investigates the BBC archives and analyses the language of race and racism post WWII to the early 1990s.
