Dr Stella Bouziana
Senior Clinical Research Fellow
Biography
I am a Senior Clinical Research Fellow with a specialist interest in cellular therapies and lymphoproliferative diseases. I am based in the laboratory of Clinician Scientist Dr Patten in King’s College London. I obtained my Medical Degree and PhD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and I completed my Haematology training at the George Papanikolaou General Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece. I joined the research and clinical team of the Haematology Department at King’s College Hospital where I have been working since 2021.
My research focuses in investigating the tumour microenvironment of lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia patients, especially those being considered or treated with cellular therapies or immune activators. This includes the spatial analysis and deep immunophenotyping of the cellular components with the aid of bioinformatics, while in parallel profiling transcriptional and molecular signatures. Unravelling the perplexity of the tumour microenvironment and the complex interplay between immune and stromal cells can contribute to better understanding immune mechanisms of resistance, while finding novel prediction models and potential treatment modalities.
In parallel to translational research, I lead research activities as a sub-investigator in several early and late phase clinical trials in the field of cellular therapies, lymphoproliferative and plasma cell disorders. In addition, I serve as an editor, board member and reviewer in multiple prestigious journals.
Research
Lymphoma Biology
We are interested in the tumour microenvironment of lymphoproliferative disorders, especially that of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and related low grade lymphomas.
