Biography

Satvir Bungar MBE (Business Management, 1996) is a multi-award-winning managing director who has been a trusted adviser in the field of corporate finance for over 20 years. Satvir has an exemplary record working with entrepreneurially spirited and high-growth businesses, helping them achieve strategic goals through mergers, acquisitions and high-profile transactions in the facilities sector. He has an influential role in UK business, regularly participating in conferences and online seminars, and contributing to various industry and professional journals on merger activity and other topical sector issues.

Working at accountancy consultancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP since 2005, including as National Head of Business Services Sector, Satvir is committed to championing equality and diversity, using his national profile at BDO to empower employee progression. He is a key participant and regional chair of BDO’s national CEDAR Network, which represents the firm’s ethnically diverse workforce. He is a valued member of a leading awards body in the facilities industry, advocating the rights of frontline workers from ethnic backgrounds. Mentoring high-performing ethnically diverse colleagues to further their careers and promoting BDO’s graduate recruitment campaign to attract a diverse range of talent, Satvir demonstrates a long-standing commitment to raising the importance of diversity and inclusion both within the service industry and across the Midlands business region in general.

Originally from the Black Country, attending school in Wolverhampton, Satvir is the son of first generation immigrants who moved to the UK from Punjab, India in the 1960s. He works closely with a number of charity and ethnic company boards to provide pro bono strategic advice and support, including as chair of Miss Macaroon. This not-for-profit social enterprise strives to improve the lives and career prospects of marginalised and long-term unemployed young people by offering hands-on training and other opportunities at their Birmingham bakery and city-centre retail outlets.

Prior to joining BDO, Satvir held senior corporate finance advisory roles at Ernst & Young LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers (then Coopers & Lybrand), where he trained and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1999. Satvir’s professional qualifications include membership of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, the leading professional body for investment, wealth and financial planning professionals. In 2019, he became a registered Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales Business and Finance Professional.

Satvir has won many accolades during his career, including Professional of the Year at the landmark 15th Asian Achievers Awards, celebrating the outstanding achievements and contributions of UK South Asians across the business, media and community sectors. In 2018, he was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and awarded an MBE for services to corporate finance, while the EMpower list in both 2020 and 2022 ranked him in the global top 100 most influential ethnic minority executive leaders.
