Biography

Dr Sandra Phillips is a translational research scientist with expertise in the field of Hepatitis B (HBV). She started her academic career at University College London (UCL), where she earned her PhD in hepatology focusing on the role of virus-specific CD8 T cells in the control of HBV infection. She currently leads a team at the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies and hold an adjunct lecturer position at KCL. Her research is centred on experimental-based studies aimed at identifying host-directed therapies for Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB). By employing a multi-faceted approach, she investigates the cellular and immune derangements in CHB, and is developing pre-clinical models that can faithfully recapitulate infection. She also conducts immunosurveillance studies alongside clinical trials to inform on the mode of action of new therapeutics and define biomarkers of response. Her ultimate goal is to transform the treatment landscape for CHB, a significant global threat to human health.
