Ms Pooja Schmill MSc, MSc, MBA, BA

Doctoral Research Student

Biography

Pooja Schmill is a doctoral student and trainee health psychologist specialising in translational psychotherapeutics for chronic medical conditions. Funded by the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, her iADJUST study investigates the relationship between mental health and clinical outcomes in chronic kidney disease, while developing and testing a novel digital psychological intervention for the NHS.

Pooja's academic journey is distinguished by an MSc in Health Psychology from King’s College London, where she was awarded the MSc Health Psychology Prize for her outstanding academic performance. She also holds an MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health from the same institution, along with an MBA from the University of Wales, UK.

Her research and clinical experience includes placements within neurology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and King’s College Hospital, developing and delivering psychological interventions. Her research study on inflammatory biomarkers and psychological distress in inflammatory bowel disease earned a nomination for the BPS Best MSc Research Award 2024.

Trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Good Clinical Practice, and Principles of Clinical Research, Pooja also holds certificates in Leading with Emotional Intelligence, The Power of Influence, and Managing Innovation from the Australian Institute of Management. Multicultural and fluent in seven languages, she holds a B2 Certification in German from the Goethe-Institut Berlin.

Pooja's experience in leading brand communication for global brands provides her a unique advantage in science communication and health literacy. Her diverse skills, academic achievements, and research interests underscore her commitment to advancing health psychology, enhancing patient care, and addressing mental health inequalities in chronic medical conditions.
