Biography
Dr. Niwa Ali is a Senior Lecturer in Cellular Immunology and a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellow at King’s College London. He completed his PhD in Immunology at King’s College London and then pursued a Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, where he studied the role of the immune system in tissue regeneration, with a particular focus on tissue-resident regulatory T cells (Tregs).
Dr. Ali then returned to King’s College London, where he held a King’s Prize Fellowship before being awarded a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellowship to establish his research group. Dr. Ali and his team have developed advanced in vivo experimental systems that utilize genomic and tissue imaging techniques to study cell-to-cell interactions during early lung and skin organogenesis, as well as to investigate the role of Tregs in cancer development.
Their research integrates immune, epithelial, stromal, and stem cell components to promote healthy tissue development and maintain immunological homeostasis throughout later life.
