Biography
Michela Antonelli is a Lecturer in Health Data Mining at King's College London. Her research focuses on leveraging AI for healthcare advancements, particularly in cancer imaging and epidemiology. With foundations in computer engineering and AI, her work has led to innovative AI applications in prostate cancer diagnosis and provided crucial insights during the COVID-19 pandemic, significantly impacting healthcare policy both nationally and internationally. Before joining King’s, she was a senior research fellow at University College London, where she developed a state-of-the-art method for zonal prostate segmentation and began her research work in AI applied to the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway. Dr. Antonelli leads the Prostate Cancer Pathway at the London Medical Imaging and AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare and is part of the new Centre for Ageing Resilience in a Changing Environment (CARICE), where she is co-leading two pilot projects. She has more than 20 years of expertise in applying AI to solve a wide range of real-world problems in various environments, particularly in healthcare. Her expertise includes advanced image analysis, big data, and deep learning techniques applied to the field of medical imaging. She has published over 50 PubMed-indexed journal articles with more than 10,000 citations and has led influential publications in top-tier journals.
