Biography
Meghana Choukkar is the Communications & Engagement Officer for the School of Global Affairs.
She is responsible for:
- managing media, web content and social media
- managing events and public engagement activities
- managing internal communications
- producing digital content such as podcasts and videos
Meghana is also a researcher affiliated with the King’s India Institute.
After working in India for five years in southern India as a journalist and media professional, she completed an MSc in Global Affairs from the School of Global Affairs at King’s. She was awarded the 'Global Institutes’ prize for the most outstanding student' in the 2021-22 academic year.
Her master’s thesis was titled ‘Fear and insecurity: Muslim politics in Kerala in the age of Hindu Nationalism’ and was supervised by Professor Christophe Jaffrelot. It was based on ethnographic fieldwork in Kasaragod district of Kerala, and studied the politics of two Muslim-led parties in the state – the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
Meghana’s research interests are in ethnic politics, caste, majoritarianism, and religious nationalism.
