Biography

Dr Urbani has a background in chemistry and pharmacology, and a PhD in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (University of Padua). He trained as a postdoc in tissue engineering, stem cell biology and transplantation, biomaterials, 3D cultures, bioreactor design and disease modelling, in the group of Prof De Coppi (UCL). He started his Liver Regeneration and Tissue Engineering group in 2017 at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology. His team is interested in studying the extracellular components of liver disease microenvironments using bioengineered models, including organoids, bioreactors and decellularised matrices.
