Biography
Professor Krish Nirantharakumar joined King’s College London as Clinical Professor of Public Health and Health Data Science. He was previously the Joint Director for the Centre for Health Data Science at the University of Birmingham.
A medical doctor by background, Krish specialised in public health and health informatics, earning an MD for his work on digital tools to improve diabetes care in hospitals. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and Faculty of Public Health (FFPH), and serves as an Honorary Consultant in Public Health Medicine with King’s Health Partners, University Hospital Birmingham and the UK Health Security Agency. His research focuses on real-world evidence (RWE), digital health technologies, multimorbidity, maternal health and global health. He co-developed Dexter, an automated platform for observational studies and pragmatic trials, that has led to securing over £20 million in research funding. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers in the past five years, earning international recognition for advancing automated epidemiology research.
Krish is committed to mentoring and supporting junior researchers, particularly from underrepresented backgrounds. His efforts were recognised by the BMJ, which highlighted him as a role model for helping early-career researchers transition into senior academic roles.
