Ishrat earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She commenced her PhD at King's in October 2022, securing the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK.

Ishrat has a background as an academic and psychologist and has been actively engaged in academia since 2015. She previously held an academic post at the University of Dhaka.

Her PhD research focuses on understanding the mental health challenges faced by young people of Bangladeshi origin residing in the UK, aiming to co-design a culturally sensitive mental health intervention.
