Biography
Ian is IP & Licensing Manager at King's Innovation Catalyst.
He is responsible for the identification, protection and commercialisation of technologies arising from the academic research at King’s with a particular focus on the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Dentistry.
Early research career was as a bench scientist in Liverpool and later at the Institute for Animal Health at Pirbright but always with an eye on practical application of research outputs, before joining Amersham International. He managed the development and commercialisation of novel non-radioactive techniques, products, reagents and technology platforms for research use in molecular biology, proteomics, in vitro imaging and cell biology.
He subsequently joined Oxford Immunotec Ltd, a spin-out from the University of Oxford, focused on exploitation and commercialisation of the T-Cell based immune system as a diagnostic platform. Later, as Director of IP, Licensing and Scientific Operations, he was responsible for management of the company’s IP portfolio (licenses, patents and trademarks) and experienced the company’s successful IPO in 2013 on the NASDAQ and purchase by Perkin Elmer in 2021.
