Biography

Project Title: Three Essays on the role of Large Firms in the Transmission of Shocks and Spillovers

Gürcan is a PhD candidate in Economics at King’s Business School, and a recipient of the King’s Business School Doctoral Studentship.

His research explores the role of large firms in transmitting shocks and spillovers within production networks. By leveraging firm-level data, he aims to identify actionable insights for economic policy, helping to build more resilient supply chains and effective regulatory frameworks. He is passionate about bridging the gap between academic research and practical applications, contributing to evidence-based policymaking that addresses real-world challenges.

Before joining King’s, he worked as a policy analyst at the OECD and as a research associate at INSEAD, where his contributions were featured in various academic and policy outlets.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Sciences with a regional focus on the Middle East and the Mediterranean, and a Master’s degree in Economics and Public Policy, both from Sciences Po Paris.

In his free time, Gürcan enjoys sailing and has competed internationally as well as worked as an instructor in both dinghy and yacht sailing.
