Biography

Grace is a registrar in general adult psychiatry. She is currently undertaking a PhD as part of the Wellcome-funded King's PhD Programme in Mental Health Research for Health Professionals.

Grace first came to the IoPPN in 2016 to undertake a Masters in Global Mental Health at King's College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She then returned to Brighton and Sussex Medical School to complete her undergraduate medical degree, before moving on to the Academic Foundation Programme associated with the University of Bristol. She returned to London and the IoPPN in August 2021 as an Academic Clinical Fellow while completing her Core Psychiatry Training in South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

Grace's main research interest is the mental health of people who have experienced forced migration, including refugees and people seeking asylum. Her doctoral work is focused on examining inequalities in care and experiences of secondary mental health services for this population. Other interests of hers include suicide epidemiology (particularly ethnic inequalities), social determinants of mental disorders, perinatal mental health, and psychiatry education.

Expertise and Public Engagement

Grace is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) Working Group for Mental Health and Forced Migration. In this role, she has contributed to several peer-reviewed editorials and co-lead the writing of a RCPsych report on the mental health implications of changes to UK immigration legislation. She has also written a book article on specific interventions for mental illness among people seeking asylum and contributed to a Refugee Action podcast episode.
