Biography
Felix Strobl is the Innovation Advisor at Ageing Research at King's (ARK) and the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing at Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). He has a diverse background in ageing research spanning emergency medicine, neuroscience, music, and business development. Before transitioning into academia and music, he spent several years as a paramedic in Germany, where he gained extensive experience in emergency medicine.
He holds a degree in Psychology and Music, a teaching diploma, and has extensive experience teaching at pre-university entry levels Music, Neuroscience & Psychology, and First Aid skills. He went on to complete a MSc in Neuroscience at IoPPN, King’s College London, where he specialised in the intersection of respiratory therapies, neurodegenerative diseases, cognition, and brain plasticity.
Alongside his scientific pursuits, Felix Strobl is a classically trained opera singer with international performance experience. He has performed with pianists and orchestras across Europe, combining his passion for music with his scientific knowledge to explore the therapeutic potential of music for cognitive and emotional health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Felix launched with the Mental Health foundation Pro Mente Sana Switzerland and diverse hospitals across Switzerland the online intervention MEA (Music Emotion and Breathing / Atmung) to support long-COVID sufferers, focusing on the therapeutic use of singing and breathwork to alleviate symptoms.
Felix has a long history of performing regularly in care homes and hospitals, where he witnessed first hand the profound impact music can have on individuals. Currently, he supports the European Society of Preventive Medicine (ESPM) as Scientific and Business Development Manager. As a keynote speaker and trainer, he shares his knowledge and expertise with a wide variety of audiences, including healthcare professionals, researchers, and the general public.
Research interests: Neurodegenerative diseases, Dementia, Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis, Healthy ageing and prevention, Digital interventions, Non-invasive brain stimulation, Cognitive function and emotional regulation.
