Biography
I moved to King's in 2018 to establish a research group working on pancreatic beta cells and diabetes.
We are interested in the patterns of gene expression underlying healthy pancreatic beta cells and how these are disrupted in diabetes. We have a particular interest in how cell identity is regulated by long non-coding RNAs.
We combine computational approaches with advanced wet-lab molecular cell biology approaches to dissect how islet cell identity is imposed and maintained.
Research
Islet Biology Research Group
Our group studies the fundamental science of islets of Langerhans, from the molecular biology of beta-cells to their effects on whole body physiology. We research the mechanisms of islet dysfunction during type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes, identify novel therapeutic targets, and work to improve islet transplantation therapy for type 1 diabetes.
