Biography
Dr Alexander Kumar (MBBS, 2008) is a British medical doctor, photographer and experienced presenter working in public engagement.
Alex has lived and worked in all kinds of challenging and extreme environments - from the Arctic to the Amazon jungle, alongside travelling to over 90 countries, making him one of the UK’s most experienced expedition doctors.
His humanitarian experience includes working in Sierra Leone in an Ebola treatment centre during the Western African outbreak, helping to combat the Zika virusoutbreak in South America, and research in and tropical infectious diseases globally including snake envenomation in the Amazon and malaria in southeast Asia.
As a photographer he is the world’s first combined medical doctor and photographer specialized in global health photography, an area of documentary photography he has pioneered, utilizing and combining his medical training and understanding of disease, illness and health with the arts.
