Dr Dela Idowa

Founder of Gift of Living Donation (GOLD)

Biography

Dr Dela Idowu is the founder of Gift of Living Donation, a charity which raises awareness of living donor kidney transplantation in the Black African Caribbean community. She is the author of More Than a Match, a book that narrates her journey as a potential living donor for a family member who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. She is a member of kidney Advisory Group and The National Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Transplant Alliance.

In 2020 to address the health disparity in living donor kidney transplantation after Covid 19 and improve equity of access to living donation for Black patients with chronic kidney disease she co designed the Phone Buddy Scheme, a community led initiative which offers a practical solution for Black patients to have earlier conversations of living donation with family and friends from a community and cultural perspective.

In her spare time, she works with the Black Living Donor Choir, a creative platform she formed to inspire people in the black community to consider being a living donor through the unique fusion of music and donor stories.
