Biography

Present research interests concerns functions of trace elements in health and disease, and molecular toxicology of environmental contaminants. Current research interests include:
(1) the roles of zinc and zinc-transporters in (a) development, (b) diabetes, (c) lipid metabolism, (d) epigenetic programming, and (e) gut epithelium maintenance
(2) regulation of dietary trace element uptake
(3) in vitro methods to assess toxicity and bioaccumulation of waterborne contaminants.

Christer Hogstrand’s research has received uninterrupted support from major research funding bodies in Sweden, Norway, USA, EU, and the UK (NERC, BBSRC, NC3R, Wellcome). Metal Metabolism Research Group

The Metal Metabolism Research Group aims to understand the roles of minerals in biology, health and disease. Much of our work is mechanistically based and involves studies at the molecular and cellular levels as well as animal model systems and human. Our research focus is currently on iron and zinc.
