Biography

Byungdoo Kim is a Research Associate at the Centre for Sustainable Business at King's Business School.

His scholarship is grounded in environmental psychology and communication, addressing issues related to the perceptual and behavioural dimensions of sustainable consumption. His research focuses on how consumers understand sustainability and implement this understanding in their daily choices and behaviour, as well as how different framing of sustainable consumption solutions may influence public perceptions and actions.

Byungdoo has taught undergraduate-level courses such as Research Methods, Persuasion and Social Influence, Visual Communication, and Communication and Technology. He has also developed an innovative curriculum for a Risk Communication course. He specialises in designing and executing lab and online experiments, conducting survey studies, and analysing large datasets.

His work has been published in journals including the Journal of Environmental Psychology, Climatic Change, Journal of Risk Research, Social Science & Medicine, and PLOS ONE.

He previously held a research fellowship at the Citizen, Environment, and Safety (CES) research group at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where he examined the effectiveness of a mobile app in fostering sustainable lifestyles (CAMPAIGNers Project). He also worked remotely as a consultant at Decision Research (United States), conducting cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of COVID-19 risk perceptions among the US public.

Byungdoo received a BA in British and American Culture from Sogang University (South Korea), an MS in Environmental Management from Seoul National University (South Korea), and a PhD in Environmental Communication from Cornell University (United States).
