Biography

Dr Anna Cartwright is a PhD Fellow on the Wellcome-funded King's PhD Programme in Mental Health Research for Health Professionals in the Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). She is a Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.

Since completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London, Dr Cartwright has worked in NHS posts across a range of mental and physical healthcare settings (burn injury, spinal cord injury and cancer care), alongside lecturing and research roles.

She has an academic background in Experimental Psychology, completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, where she was awarded the Mary Somerville Prize for a First in her final exams. Following this, Dr Cartwright completed her MSc in Mental Health Studies at the IoPPN, King’s College London and was awarded the Nick Bouras Prize for academic excellence and Grey Matter Prize for research excellence.

Dr Cartwright’s PhD focuses on refining and optimising an app-based interpretation training programme for fear of cancer recurrence in people who are living beyond breast cancer. She is passionate about patient and public involvement and engagement in research. The project involves working closely with people with lived experience of breast cancer and community organisations.

    The Cognition in Emotional Disorders and Resilience (CEDAR) group’s research focuses on understanding both the mechanisms that maintain mental health difficulties and those that foster resilience. We use this knowledge to help us develop new interventions that target these mechanisms either in face-to-face therapy or via digital therapeutics.
