Research
Thesis title: 'Brazilian Foreign Policy on Twitter: how far-right speech on social media mobilizes public opinion'
Working with the hypothesis that far-right speech on social media has amplified the visibility of foreign policy issues in Brazil and influenced public opinion, the ongoing research monitors Twitter debates about foreign policy. It investigates particularities in the diffusion of foreign policy content through network and content analyses.
Seeking to find whether foreign policy, as it populates social media, has increased its ability to mobilise the Brazilian public, the research expects to explain how this mobilisation may derive from the appropriation of foreign policy narratives by a far-right populist discourse - one that seems to rely deeply on digital platforms to spread and ensure its survival.
