Biography

Ailbhe Madigan is a Research Assistant working on a variety of projects for the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). She contributes to studies which examine topics such as barriers and facilitators to taking part in research, the perceived utility of digital health technologies and data sharing.

Her role includes facilitating three Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) groups of service users and/or carers with lived experience of mental health difficulties.

Prior to joining the Department of Psychology at King’s College London (KCL), Ailbhe completed her BA (Honours; International) in Psychology at University College Dublin in 2021 and her MSc in Mental Health Studies at KCL in 2022.

She has previously worked in clinical roles within NHS settings and third sector organisations. She has worked with a range of service users across the lifespan, including those who have neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions as well with individuals who are homeless.

Teaching

  • Facilitates the HSDTC114 - Supporting Service Users for Researchers using Consent for Contact (C4C) course.

Expertise and public engagement

  • Volunteered at Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, The Thoughtshop Foundation in Kolkata and as a night-time crisis volunteer with 50808, a mental health support line.
  • Written blogs for the Mental Elf, a website which aims to provide accessible summaries of evidence-based publications to professionals and service users.
