Biography

Abbie King is a Lecturer in King’s Academy where she is lead for Student-Staff Partnerships. Abbie Joined King’s College London from UCL, where she piloted, managed and then lead on the sector-leading UCL ChangeMakers initiative for 8 years. As part of her work in this area, Abbie has been leading on strategies to ensure student-staff partnerships are developed with equity and inclusion in mind, ensuring that those who stand to benefit most from working in partnership and to have their voices amplified are supported and empowered to do so.

Her work around student-staff partnerships has led her to develop a broad range of interests that include:

  • Student engagement broadly, and particularly the shifts in student engagement that have been accelerated by the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis;
  • Student representation, voice and democracy;
  • Belonging and mattering (for students and staff), including practices that promote wellbeing;
  • Developing Learning Communities within the curriculum;
  • Creative approaches to engaging students;
  • The place and role of extra- and co-curricular in a modern HEI.

Abbie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Faculty Liaison to the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine.
