January: Swap, don't shop!
The King's community is coming together this January to find a sustainable, zero waste way to refresh their wardrobes for the new year!
Run in collaboration with King's Climate & Sustainability, Eco Soc and Closwap, sustainable clothes swaps help people trade pre-loved items for something new (to them) while helping the planet.
By swapping instead of shopping, people can reduce waste, conserve resources, and combat fast fashion’s environmental impact.

December: Keeping the community warm through Winter
For the fourth year in a row, King’s Sport & Wellness proudly supported Lewisham Donation Hub throughout early December, collecting donations of warm winter clothes to help those in need across South East London.
Not only did this avoid clothes being discarded, cutting down on fashion waste and emissions, but it helped support people experiencing hardship throughout the cold winter months.

November: Blowing away bad vape pen disposal habits
Did you know that over 5 million vapes are thrown away every week in the UK - and only 17% of vapes are recycled correctly?
When vape pens are disposed of incorrectly, we lose important resources that can be used again (such as copper wire and lithium batteries).
Vape pens thrown into general waste can even cause fires in bin lorries or waste facilities.
King's Estates & Facilities knew this was a key area to take action on, so they've placed new vape recycling bins in every residence... With plans to expand these to all the King's campuses in the works!
Keep an eye out around King's areas for these key bins, in a nice eye-catching pink!

October: King's Food foil unnecessary food disposal with their new 'Taste, don't waste' scheme!
King's Food are tackling thrown-away meals by introducing a new 'Taste, don't waste' option on their meals.
The aim of the project is to give staff and students a try of dishes before they purchase them, reducing the number of meals that are thrown away due to dislike.
This initiative is currently being rolled out across King's campuses, so keep an eye out for the scheme at King's cafes.
