Reduce, reuse, relax: Waste and wellbeing week

31MarA busy cafe with a picture of an elephant carrying a coffee cup

Did you know that our yearly disposable coffee cup waste at King’s is the same weight as an elephant?!

The King’s Climate & Sustainability, King's Food, Estates & Facilities, Organisational Development and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion teams are excited to launch a new waste reduction and wellbeing campaign, encouraging everyone to take a break for lunch and reduce waste by eating in or bringing your lunch from home.

Follow the Sustainability group on Viva Engage for information throughout the week on how you can make a big impact – simply by taking the time to sit in the King's food venues and spending time away from your desk when you have breaks. Not only will this help your wellbeing by making sure you take some time for yourself during the workday, but it will also help cut down on waste from disposable takeaway packaging – a win-win!

During the week we challenge you to:

  1. Meet with a friend for a coffee break and ask to sit in (make sure to ask for reusable cups)
  2. Have a zero waste lunch where you avoid single use packaging and cutlery
  3. Take a break in nature and visit a local green space

So however you do it this week, make sure you take time to Reduce, Reuse - and Relax your way to a healthier future.

Let’s #MakeChangeTogether!
