VIDEO: Leading scholar delivers lecture on prospects for democracy
World-leading scholar, Professor Adam Przeworski examined the prospects for democracy amid growing signs of its disintegration at a lecture hosted at King’s College London.

In Conflicts, Elections, and Democracy, Prof Przeworski discussed a brief history of democracy, its relative fragility and the key elements that he believes allow it to successfully establish and survive.
Prof Przeworski, Professor Emeritus of Politics at New York University, also discussed the guard rails and conventions that keep democracies from sliding into tyranny and then examined the situation in the United States where some of those facets are being eroded.
The talk took place on 25 March and was the latest in the Department of Political Economy’s Distinguished Lecture series.
After the lecture, Prof Przeworski took questions from the audience on a range of topics, from the utility of political science, the prospects for proportional representation, and the seeming lack of opposition to events taking place in the US.
