The Aspiring Leadership Symposium for ECRs, run by the SCMMS-DDI committee
The Aspiring Leadership Symposium, organised by the School DDI committee, was held at the James Black Centre Denmark Hill on Wed 22nd May.
The symposium was introduced by Sue Brain (School DDI Lead) and discussed the ongoing work of the DDI within the School. Aileen King (Head of the Pharmacology Education Dept) and Dibesh Thapa (newly appointed KCL lecturer who did his PhD and postdoc in our School), then spoke about how education can help to develop individuals for their chosen careers. Phoebe Kitscha (BHF Research Advisor), gave a highly relevant talk explaining the range of grants that are available at the BHF for ECRs.
The afternoon ended with a 3 minute elevator talk competition that was judged by Andy Webb, Alison Brewer and Dibesh Thapa. There were prizes for PhD students and postdocs. The prize winners were Hannah Green (first) and Lydia Daniels Gatward (runner up) for the postdoctoral category. Bushra Farukh (first) and Qizi Ju (runner up) won prizes for the PhD student category. Congratulations to all the speakers. The quality of all the speakers was high and this was a highly inspiring afternoon.
