Rowe Prize Winners
An award given to the student who produces the best practical work in the BDS2 Conservative & MI Dentistry Clinical Skills course.
Congratulations to Abida Islam, winner of the 2020 Rowe Prize, and runner-up Marianne Crombie.
The Rowe Prize is a long-standing annual award given to the student who produces the best practical work in the BDS2 Conservative & MI Dentistry Clinical Skills course. This prize was endowed by the late Professor Jack Rowe, a past Dean of the United Medical & Dental Schools of Guy's and St. Thomas' (UMDS). It is awarded on the basis of the quality of the practical exercises carried out during the clinical skills course and is assessed by an oral examination in conjunction with a poster display of all the work the candidate has carried out in BDS2.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the prize examination was held for students at the beginning of their BDS3. The examiners were Prof Banerjee (Head of Dept / Discipline, Conservative & MI Dentistry) and Mr LC Howe, a hugely respected clinician who worked at Guy's and then King's for over 30 years, ultimately heading up Restorative Dentistry at the Faculty before his retirement 5 years ago. The standard, as always, was very high, with the quality of the practical skills and academic knowledge, a credit to those students competing and to the staff teaching them.
Congratulations again to Abida and Marianne.
