Professor Andrew Blick, head of the Department of Political Economy, is a member of the UK Constitution Monitoring Group and attended the Lords on 7 May to mark the publication of a report which reviews the state of the constitution at the end of the current parliament.

The report, Constitutional Performance: An End of Parliament Review, looks at constitutional developments which have occurred in the UK since the election of 2019 and offers recommendations for an incoming government after the forthcoming general election.

Joining Prof Blick at the event were Dame Ursula Brenan, the former Ministry of Justice permanent secretary; Professor Aileen McHarg of University of Durham, and Lord John Thomas, the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales.

UK Constitution Monitoring Group was established in 2020 and is made up of constitutional experts and practitioners, and assesses constitutional developments against a set of criteria and principles.
