Congratulations to Professor Richard Vinen, who was recently announced as the winner of a Wolfson History Prize and the Templer Medal for military history, both for his book, National Service: Conscription in Britain 1945-1963 (London: Allen Lane, 2014).
Wolfson History Prizes are awarded annually to promote and encourage standards of excellence in the writing of history for the general public.
Professor Vinen accepted his award at a ceremony held at Claridge's last week, where History Prize judge Professor Sir David Cannadine praised him for opening up “many new vistas on the broader social, political and international history of post war Britain".
Listen to Professor Vinen and his fellow Wolfson Prize winner Alexander Watson, join Rob Attar for a discussion about their books.
The book was also one of 51 entries for the Templer Medal. Professor Vinen is pictured above accepting the Templer award, which was presented to him by HRH Field Marshal the Duke of Kent KG, at a ceremony at the East India Club, London last month.
