Renato Nazzini

The award of Honorary King’s Counsel recognises those in the legal profession who have made a major contribution to, and impact on, the law of England and Wales outside the courtroom.

Professor Nazzini is a leading scholar in competition law, international arbitration and construction law, with a strong global, comparative and interdisciplinary focus. He has done pioneering work on abuse of dominance and private enforcement of competition law. His work influenced the 2008 European Commission Guidance on abuse of dominance and the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015. He has also contributed to international arbitration and construction law. Renato has published groundbreaking empirical work on dispute resolution in construction and actively promoted diversity in the field. His views have been influential in the latest review of the Arbitration Act 1996.

I am grateful to my students and colleagues, the legal and business communities in the UK, the EU and elsewhere in the world, and all the stakeholders with whom I have worked over the past 25 years. In fields like competition law, construction law, international arbitration and dispute resolution, we can only make significant progress if legal thinking is integrated into the practice of the law and the development of policy to make a real difference to the way in which our legal system functions

Professor Renato Nazzini, Director of the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution.

Since 2021, he has led the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at King’s, with significant impact on, and engagement with, the practice of dispute resolution and international arbitration. Professor Nazzini also sits as an arbitrator (president, sole arbitrator, wing member and emergency arbitrator) in complex and high-value proceedings all over the world.

Huge congratulations to Renato from us all at The Dickson Poon School of Law on his appointment, which recognises not only his extraordinary achievements as an academic but also the tangible impact that he has made on policy and legal developments over the past 25 years.

Professor Dan Hunter, Executive Dean of The Dickson Poon School of Law.

Renato will be sworn in at the official King’s Counsel Appointments Ceremony, presided over by the Lord Chancellor on behalf of HM The King, at Westminster Hall on 24th March 2025.
