The 2024-25 class is the first to study the two-year hybrid Master's in Digital Economies, the first programme delivered at the new King’s Singhasari site after a partnership agreement was signed in 2023.

The Master's programme here is a major step forward for the delivery of our Arts & Humanities expertise in new and innovative ways. The Digital Economies course is the first to be delivered at King’s Singhasari, marking the start of an ambitious programme that will see a host of courses delivered here.

Professor Hugh Bowden, King’s College London Academic Lead for Indonesia

We are immensely proud to be the first Russell Group University to be delivering programmes in Indonesia. This innovative, collaborative way of working will help meet the needs of the future by developing global expertise on digital transformation for and of society. I would like to thank the Indonesian Government for their support of the programme.

Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor of King’s College London

Doors open on King’s Singhasari

The new site in the Special Economic Zone means King's is the first Russell Group university to provide place-based transnational education in Indonesia. Set in the city of Malang with views of the local volcano, Mount Arjuna, it features five seminar rooms and a lecture hall, along with social spaces and a faculty area. It is supported by state-of-the-art IT/AV facilities. A second phase will see the addition of student accommodation and further teaching spaces.

Students will learn via a combination of in-person seminars, workshops, as well as online lectures and talks. This hybrid approach gives flexibility to working professionals who are undertaking the course as part of their work.

Among the other benefits for King’s Singhasari students are access to supplementary English courses, the ability to enrol on the Associateship of King’s College and attend a graduation ceremony in the UK.

A growing partnership

I am very happy that the Singhasari Special Economic Zone has become part of the history of Place-Based Transnational Education in Indonesia. We truly hope that the presence of King’s College London in Singhasari will make a significant contribution to improving the quality of human resources and the availability of excellent multidisciplinary talents to support the Vision of 'Golden Indonesia 2045'.

David Santoso, Chief Executive of Singhasari Special Economic Zone

The partnership between King’s and Singhasari Special Economic Zone reflects the strategic vision outlined in the UK Government’s International Education Strategy, which identified Indonesia as one of five priority international markets for UK universities, and King’s internationalisation strategy 2029 with its core focus on global reach, collaboration and university alliances.

The Special Economic Zone has been set up by the Indonesian Government to support growth in digital content production, technology development, education and tourism.
