King’s College London has today signed a renewed agreement with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to jointly fund up to 100 PhD scholarships per year for Chinese graduates. This is more than a tenfold increase on previous years.

The King's-China Scholarship Council PhD Scholarship programme (K-CSC) is about to award its fifth cohort of scholars. The number of scholarships is increased from seven to 100 as a result of its success since being established in 2013, and a shared commitment to support the very best students to undertake high quality research. King’s now offers one of the largest number of scholarships from a UK university.

The Chinese Ministry of Education today marked the success of the programme and the new agreement at the fifth annual UK-China People-to-People (P2P) Dialogue, held in London.

The agreement commits up to 100 PhD scholarships for Chinese students hoping to pursue research degrees at King’s in any discipline. Professor Reza Razavi, Vice President and Vice-Principal (Research) at King’s College London, and Mr. Sheng Jianxue, the Secretary-General of China Scholarship Council, signed the agreement, witnessed by the Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities, The Rt Hon Justine Greening MP and China’s Minister for Education, Chen Baosheng.

'Equipping for the future'

Professor Razavi said: “We are thrilled to have signed this renewed agreement with the CSC, expanding our offering to graduates in China who want to pursue research here at King’s. These are very able students who will make an important contribution to our research endeavours as well as gaining a high quality, all-round postgraduate research education that equips them for the future.”

“We value international partnerships of this kind greatly, as they not only enhance and transfer knowledge across the globe, but diversify and internationalise our community here at King’s and in London. I hope this partnership continues to blossom year-on-year.”

The K-CSC supports King’s wider ambitions and vision to work in collaboration with its Chinese partners to strengthen its research, education and service priorities.

As part of the K-CSC programme, successful students receive a scholarship that covers tuition fees, an annual living allowance that includes overseas student health cover, a return airfare to London and visa application fees.

Information about the K-CSC programme is available on the King’s College London webpages. Applications for scholarships are currently open and close on 12 January 2018.
