I am incredibly proud to honour Princess Diana’s legacy and for being recognised for this joint effort. At a moment of national crisis when food inflation was at a 40-year high in the UK, we refused to sit idle. We built a donation platform to tackle food poverty that transformed into a community movement to ensure that no one had to face hunger alone.

King's alumnus honoured with the Diana Award
Congratulations to Fabio Richter (Digital Culture, 2020), who was recognised for his humanitarian efforts to tackle food insecurity across the UK.
Department of Digital Humanities alumnus Fabio Richter has been honoured with the Diana Award, a prestigious recognition for social impact and community engagement.
In 2023, Fabio launched the 'Hot Meal Challenge' to tackle the UK’s growing cost-of-living crisis and its harsh impact on families struggling with food insecurity. To address the intersection between food poverty, mental health, and loneliness, Fabio developed a unique donation app that allows university students to nominate their friends to donate hot meals.
The funds raised support Sufra, a leading London food charity, to provide meals to those in need. By blending technology with grassroots activism, the campaign fed hungry families in London, reached 90,000 people on social media and gained global media attention.
King's taught me to think deeply and care about making a difference in the world. The lessons I learned there guide my work and choices every day.

The award recipients were congratulated by HRH The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex at a virtual award ceremony held on 5 December 2024. The event marked the 25th anniversary of the Diana Award.
