Announced by Professor Suzanne Rastrick OBE, Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) for NHS England, the accolade celebrates health professionals who have made exceptional contributions to healthcare, embodying NHS values and demonstrating unwavering dedication to their roles.
With over 20 years of experience as a radiographer and sonographer, Jackie’s career has been marked by a focus on innovation and a commitment to patient-centred care. She has worked extensively in ultrasound scanning and fetal MRI, focusing on advanced imaging modalities to enhance screening, diagnosis and care, particularly for pregnant women.
I am truly honoured to have received the Gold Award for Excellence. I take immense pride in being a Sonographer and Radiographer - our profession is often one that works in the shadows, but our identity is one that pairs hard work, with a sense of realism, humour, technical knowledge and human relationships, I think this is what adds value for our patients and service users. In recent years, I haven't followed a traditional radiography career path - I hope this journey I’m on encourages others to forge their own path, even when the way forward isn’t always clear.– Jacqueline Matthew, Clinical Research Fellow/Sonographer at the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences
Jackie's dedication towards equity in healthcare has driven impactful research, including a project supported by the Society of Radiographers to address disparities in maternal health outcomes in the UK. This work has improved participation in imaging studies and fostered a better understanding of public and professional priorities in pregnancy imaging research.
The award has been developed to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence, where a significant, outstanding and exceptional contribution has been made by members of England’s AHP community in their work.– Professor Suzanne Rastrick, OBE, Chief Allied Health Professions Officer (CAHPO) for England
The CAHPO Gold Award recognises Jackie's exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing diagnostic radiography, research, and equitable healthcare. Currently, Jackie is a key contributor at Fraiya, a King's spin-out company leveraging AI tools to improve pregnancy ultrasound.
