King's acquired the building in 1998 and invested £40 million into the project. The Capital Projects team within the Estates & Facilities department transformed the piece of neo-gothic architecture into the Maughan Library used by the vast numbers of students and staff who walk through its doors today.
The history of the building goes back to the medieval period, and the stature of the building and the University itself was recognised with a grand opening of the library by Her Majesty The Queen in November 2002.
The library is now home to a vast collection of books, journals, and various mixed media.
There are also special exhibitions which take place in the newly refurbished Weston Room and are free for King's students, staff and visitors to attend.
