Student Success Transformation Programme

King’s is making a substantial (c.£50 million) investment in a multi-year transformation programme. The Student Success Transformation Programme (SSTP) will outline our ambitions and journey to transform our educational provision for our increasingly diverse student body. The programme aims to deliver significant change, working with our education community to address perennial areas of student and staff dissatisfaction and operational challenge. It recognises the vital importance of enabling a thriving staff community who can in turn provide an excellent experience for our students during their time at King’s. We will work closely with our Student Union (KCLSU) partners to ensure the programme’s vision and that the benefits are realised for all members of our diverse student and staff community. Major changes are underway or planned across systems and processes, and people, as well as the physical teaching and learning environment, with priorities currently being developed into a detailed business case. We have listened to the community and categorised into three broad themes the challenges which provide an overall design of our student success transformation programme: Student Services (e.g. information, advice & guidance, pastoral support, well-being and community), Assessment & Feedback (policy, processes and systems), and Education Services (enterprise-scale processes and systems).

Key responsibilities

With the appointment of Keith Zimmerman earlier this year as Executive Director for Transformation of Education and Student Success, this is an exciting time to join us in a senior and broad role with a significant opportunity to turn strategic priorities into an operational reality through effective leadership and delivery. The Transformation Programme Director will work closely with the Executive Director for Transformation of Education and Student Success (SRO equivalent), programme delivery teams, external partners, and stakeholders across King’s and beyond to translate our plans into reality. This will be a genuine cross-institution initiative to deliver a highly ambitious organisational change portfolio and many of the objectives of our Strategy 2026. The Programme Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a portfolio of major change programmes to deliver agreed outcomes of enduring benefit to King’s and our staff and students. This will include: • Programme design and delivery planning, including prioritisation and management of activities and resources across all programmes, ensuring key dependencies are tracked and managed; • Developing and managing programme governance, monitoring and reporting, aligned to existing and emerging King’s standards and methodologies; • Managing the programme's budget, monitoring expenditure and costs against delivered and realised benefits as the programme progresses and producing management information on return on investment; • Acting as a point of escalation for risks and issues, managing and mitigating these through appropriate governance structures as required; • Proactive identification and management of stakeholders at all levels, and oversight of appropriate communication and engagement mechanisms to ensure organisational awareness and ‘buy in’; • Ensuring that organisational change is sustained and embedded effectively, and that outcomes can be monitored and linked to benefits; • Recruiting, leading and developing a multi-functional programme delivery team with a range of core skills and capabilities which may include programme and project management, strategic planning and organisational design, change management, communication, business analysis and benefits management, finance, and enterprise architecture, as well as seconded operational specialists and subject-matter experts from across the institution, acting as line manager where appropriate within the structure once established; and • Deputising for the Executive Director where appropriate.
