About the role

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Comparative Literature, with specific expertise in the Horn of Africa.

You will be expected to:

  • Convene and provide 10 hours of lectures and 10 hours of seminar teaching on the second-year module 5ABA0023 Texts and Genres in Medieval and Modern Africa (13th to 19th Century)
  • Convene and provide 10 hours of lectures and 10 hours of seminar teaching on the final-year module 6ABA0013 Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali Literatures in Global Intellectual History
  • Convene and provide 20 hours of seminar teaching on the MA module 7ABA0120 Global Modernity and the Horn of Africa
  • Complete assessment and marking for the above modules, as appropriate.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an a fixed term contract from 1st August 2025 until 31 January 2026.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD awarded in relevant subject area 
  2. A research profile, consistent with stage of career, in Horn of Africa and global cultural studies
  3. Undergraduate teaching experience at HEI

Desirable criteria

  1. Administrative experience
  2. Experience in student pastoral care  Postgraduate teaching experience
