About us

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King’s College London is seeking to appoint a fixed term Lecturer in Religion, Politics and Ethics.  This role is being advertised to provide cover for Dr King-Ho Leung who has been awarded a John Templeton grant.

You will contribute to a department that is known for its excellence in the integrated study of Theology and Religious Studies and for engaged, interdisciplinary work.

About the role

You will contribute to co-taught undergraduate modules including, in your first year, Religion, Politics and Global Media; Ethics, Values and Identity; Religion in International Relations; Peace and Violence. You will also contribute at MA level. After your first year there will be negotiation with you about the modules to which you contribute.

You will have expertise in teaching and educational innovation in at least two and preferably three of: politics, ethics, and religion. You will play an active role in the administration of the department, showing an ability to be innovative in developing our educational offerings. Appropriate support and training will be provided in the context of a supportive department and faculty.

You will be employed on a Academic Education Pathway contract (80% teaching, student  support, educational leadership, innovation and administration,  20% research).

This post will be offered on a full-time contract, starting from 1st September 2025 until 31st  May 2028.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. A PhD in Religious Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Ethics, Social Science, Theology, or related relevant discipline/s
  2. Ability to teach politics, ethics, and religion at undergraduate and MA level
  3. Strong administrative skills, and an ability to be creative and innovative in the context of a growing and evolving department
  4. An inclusive approach to engagement with different disciplinary approaches
  5. A developing research profile commensurate with career stage
  6. Collaborative spirit and ability to work with others in a collegial and supportive manner
  7. Ability to deliver projects in a creative and timely manner

Desirable criteria

  1. Some experience of multi- and interdisciplinary collaboration
  2. Ability to teach Christian theology and the arts at undergraduate and MA level
