The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a Faculty of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease.

The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHaPS) is one of three schools under the IoPPN, comprised of the four departments of Psychology; Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry; Health Service & Population Research; and Biostatistics & Health Informatics. With over 100 Principal Investigators, our research spans development from childhood to old age, encompassing basic research through to the development and implementation of treatments, services and policy.

About the role:

The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHAPS) is seeking to appoint a Business Officer (Operations) to join their dynamic team in Business Operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious and experienced individual with a sound understanding of the higher education landscape.

The successful candidate will be capable of working autonomously and independently liaising directly with various stakeholders, from Heads of Department to students across our diverse school. The post holder will use their initiative, discretion, knowledge, and experience to help provide administrative support for key operational functions across Education, People, and Space.

The post holder must be highly organised and have a demonstrable ability to plan, prioritise, and work to deadlines. The successful candidate will have an excellent attention-to-detail skill set and should be flexible, proactive, and strive for continuous improvement.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

This is a hybrid role that requires you to work at least two days on campus across Denmark Hill and Guy’s Campuses, with Monday and Friday as required on-campus days.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Demonstrable knowledge and skills in business operations acquired through previous roles.

2. Confidence and experience in processing financial transactions & knowledge of financial systems in a large organisation.

3. IT skills (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and experience of utilising digital technology in day-to-day work.

4. Proven communication and interpersonal skills to receive, understand and relay daily operational information to various groups.

5. Able to work independently and as part of a team contributing to broader team goals and objectives.

6. Good organisation and time management skills, with the ability to organise workload and manage competing priorities.

7. Good accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to follow and adapt to new procedures and processes in a timely manner.

8. Proactive approach and able to problem solve.

Desirable criteria

1. Keen interest in higher education business operations in the UK.

2. Experience in servicing committees.
