About us
We are part of the King’s MND Care and Research Centre, a group of clinical and laboratory research teams working to accelerate the search for a cure for motor neuron disease (also known as ALS). We work across King’s College London and King’s College Hospital at the Denmark Hill site.
About the role
The role will provide clinical research and clinical trials support to our portfolio of motor neurone disease (MND) research studies (commercially sponsored and academic led).
You will be part of the MND research and clinical trials team and will work with the MND Clinical Trials Team Consultants: Prof Ammar Al-Chalabi, Dr Jemeen Sreedharan, Dr James Bashford and the Senior ALS trials manager Ms Theresa Chiwera.
The Clinical Research Practitioner will be required to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate expert research, care and provide support to patients attending the King’s Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Care and Research Centre who have been or have the potential to be recruited onto a clinical trial programme. You will play a key role in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006. In conjunction with the other members of the team, facilitate the production of good quality research.
You will facilitate and aid in the recruitment of patients to ensure high quality clinical studies and trials. You will also act as a patient advocate providing support and assistance as required and assist in the co-ordination and management of a portfolio of in-house, national, and international phase I, II and III MND trials.
This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months in the first instance.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Upper-second class (2:1) honours degree (or equivalent) in healthcare, psychology or a related area
- Experience of working in MND clinical research
- Excellent knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006
- Evidence of good team working
- Articulate with advanced written and oral communication skill
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize and seek input where necessary
- Excellent administrative skills including organising and planning
Desirable criteria
- Good leadership skills
- Good project management skills
- Evidence of study set up and close out
- Ability to perform clinical activities specific to MND specialty
