THIS VACANCY IS OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
About us
INKLUDE is a Wellcome Trust-funded initiative dedicated to improving inclusivity within research careers at King's College London. The project aims to address and dismantle systemic barriers that under-represented groups, particularly women and individuals from minoritised ethnic backgrounds, face within the academic environment. Led by senior leaders, including President & Principal Professor Shitij Kapur, and co-applicants from various faculties, the project focuses on enhancing research culture, diversity, and inclusion.
The INKLUDE project is structured around five critical Work Packages (WPs):
- Work Package 1: Understanding systemic barriers, led by Martin Broadstock.
- Work Package 2: Leadership training for research leaders, led by Lorraine Kelly and Madeleine Wyatt.
- Work Package 3: Development programs for under-represented groups, led by Mitul Mehta.
- Work Package 4: Enacting institutional change, led by Lorraine Kelly.
- Work Package 5: Co-production, evaluation, and dissemination, led by Stephani Hatch.
Our project is grounded in three core values: Cultural Humility, Cultural Safety, and Cultural Competency. These values guide our approach to creating a supportive and inclusive research environment where diversity is celebrated, and all staff and students can thrive.
About the role
The Co-Lead for Work Package 1 (WP1) will play a critical role in understanding systemic barriers to inclusivity within King's College London’s research culture. This work package will lead on conducting an independent review of the university's promotion and retention processes, alongside an in-depth analysis of survey data from the 2023 KCL All Staff Survey. The goal is to identify and communicate barriers that prevent under-represented groups—particularly women and individuals from minoritised ethnic backgrounds—from thriving in research careers.
You will be responsible for assisting the work package lead in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a thorough and unbiased review. This includes preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to key stakeholders across the university. As a Co-Lead, you will work closely with the Head of Research Culture, Martin Broadstock, and the wider INKLUDE team, to analyse and assist in the implementation of an externally conducted report on barriers to career progression.
This is a part-time role with a commitment of approximately 10 days per year. You will be appointed on a fixed-term contract until the end of the INKLUDE project (31 May 2026). Approval from your line manager is required before applying.
