Innovation@King‘s brings together the Translational Research Office team, Industry Partnerships team and the Intellectual Property & Licensing team. These teams work together with King‘s researchers to unlock innovative opportunities to discover, protect and create impact at scale, and champion King’s pipeline of life-changing innovations with industry and investors.

About the role

The Innovation Skills Executive will join the Translational Research Office (TRO) team, helping the Innovation@King’s (I@K) teams to support King’s entrepreneurial academics develop their discoveries into real-world impact.

Line managed by one of TRO’s Translational Research Managers, you will coordinate the delivery of a researcher training and engagement programme through the TRO’s Translation Academy and help to create and disseminate relevant resources. Additionally, you will capture and analyse outcome measures related to innovation and impact.

The role will involve creative input and initiative, including suggesting improvements to the organisation and presentation of our training materials and resources, to engage and facilitate access for a range of audiences across King’s research community.

Interacting with managers and researchers across all nine of King’s research faculties, you will help staff and students develop and apply innovation skills in their research. You will handle multiple tasks and changing priorities daily in a supportive environment, providing an exciting opportunity to gain knowledge about research translation, academic-industry partnerships, intellectual property management and commercialisation.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. Hybrid working is supported, with some days per week working on site across the different King’s campuses.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. First degree in a relevant subject and demonstratable post-graduate experience in a research or commercial environment.
  2. Evidence of project management, co-ordination and time-management ability.
  3. Evidence of descriptive statistical analysis ability to support project evaluation and impact measurement with a drive to constantly improve.
  4. Evidence of competent IT skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  5. Evidence of experience in research translation and science entrepreneurship.
  6. Ability to work as part of a team, taking appropriate initiative, and working proactively while maintaining collaborative communication with the team.
  7. Confidence in communicating problems and to contributing creative ideas, while feeding into TRO and I@K strategy.
  8. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and an enthusiastic, energetic and collaborative personality who works collaboratively, and responds promptly to requests and can build upon constructive criticism.

Desirable criteria

  1. Higher degree (MSc or PhD) is not a requirement but may be an advantage. 
  2. Experience of creating high-quality presentations in powerpoint (or equivalent). 
  3. Project management experience.
